ART THERAPY

Support for emotional expression, creativity, trauma healing, self-discovery, and personal growth throughout Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Edina, Plymouth, and the West Metro.

SOMETIMES WORDS AREN'T ENOUGH

Sometimes words are not enough to fully express what we are feeling or carrying. Art therapy offers a creative and meaningful way to explore emotions, process experiences, and connect more deeply with yourself — even when it feels difficult to put those experiences into language.

At Integraton Psychotherapy and Wellness, art therapy combines the therapeutic process with creative expression to support healing, insight, emotional regulation, and personal growth. No artistic experience or skill is required. Art therapy is not about creating something “good” or aesthetically perfect; it is about using creativity as a tool for self-expression, exploration, and healing.

what is art therapy

Art therapy is a mental health treatment facilitated by a trained therapist that incorporates creative processes such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, or other forms of artistic expression within therapy sessions. Through the creative process, clients are often able to access thoughts, emotions, and experiences that may feel difficult to verbalize directly.

Art therapy can be especially helpful for individuals who:

  • Feel emotionally overwhelmed or “stuck”

  • Have difficulty expressing emotions verbally

  • Have experienced trauma or significant stress

  • Experience anxiety or depression

  • Struggle with self-esteem or identity

  • Are navigating grief, transitions, or relationship difficulties

  • Want a more experiential and creative approach to therapy

Art therapy can be beneficial for children, adolescents, and adults alike.

Our Approach

At Integraton Psychotherapy and Wellness, art therapy is integrated thoughtfully and collaboratively based on each client’s comfort level and goals. Sessions may include both traditional talk therapy and creative interventions, allowing clients to process experiences in ways that feel natural and accessible to them.

Our clinicians create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where creativity can become a pathway toward healing and self-understanding.

Depending on your needs, art therapy may support:

Emotional expression and processing

Stress reduction and relaxation

Trauma processing

Emotional regulation

Self-exploration and identity development

Increased self-esteem and confidence

Mindfulness and grounding

Improved communication and insight

ART THERAPY FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

Art therapy can be particularly powerful for children and adolescents, who may not yet have the language or emotional tools to fully articulate their internal experiences. Creative expression often helps young people communicate emotions, process difficult experiences, and build coping skills in a way that feels engaging and developmentally appropriate.

For teens, art therapy can also provide an outlet for identity exploration, emotional expression, stress management, and self-confidence.

Healing Through Creativity

Creativity can help us reconnect with parts of ourselves that feel disconnected, silenced, or overwhelmed. Art therapy creates space for curiosity, reflection, and healing while honoring that each individual’s process is unique.

You do not need to identify as “creative” to benefit from art therapy. The focus is not on artistic talent, but on the experience of expression, exploration, and emotional growth.
